Becoming a research partner with Better Conversations with Parkinson's

Get involved: shape our research

We are working closely with people who have experience of Parkinson’s, their families, partners, carers, and speech and language therapists.

Our aims for working together

We want everyone to:

  • Help lead and shape the research

  • Feel heard, respected, and supported

  • Have equal say in as many decisions as possible

  • Take part in a way that suits them

  • Enjoy working with us

We have three friendly facilitators to help run meetings and support you to be involved. We aim to share the impact of what we are doing together in an update every 6 months.

Please do give us feedback at any point on what we can improve.

How you can join in

We welcome you to contribute in any way that you feel comfortable. Please chat with us about any support that might help you to take part.

Our welcome event gives information about the project and working together. The recording from 11th November 2025 can be found by clicking the link below:

We would love to meet with you to talk about this research, to listen to your ideas, and to work together with you. If you are interested send an email to philippa.clay@ucl.ac.uk.

There are two main ways of being involved:

You can join groups focusing on specific projects

You can help in smaller ways, like sharing ideas or giving feedback

We also work with local support groups to get advice and work together on specific topics.

What do you get from being involved?

Meeting others

We make sure that there is time to chat and socialise together

Payment

We pay a small amount in recognition for your time and expertise

Motivation

You are making a difference to the future healthcare of others. People have also described taking part as therapeutic

Cake

When we meet face to face, we try and make sure there’s tea and food to fuel our thoughts and creativity!

Knowledge

You bring your expertise and, in return, gain ideas from other people living with Parkinson’s or people working in this area

Enjoyment

We try to make our groups as fun as possible

Please get in touch with us if you need information, support or if you have a general query. We look forward to hearing from you.
